Dr. Elizabeth Spaar is a family medicine physician and owner of Spectrum Family Practice. She specializes in integrative medical care with a focusa on medical marijuana, IV vitamins, opiate addiction, and the pediatric condition PANDAS. She is a graduate of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her training in family medicine at the Latrobe Hospital Family Medicine Residency. She has five children and spends her free time writing, baking and attempting to rein in the three ring circus she calls her family.

Dr. Spaar talked to Natalie and Kim about why she decided to pursue a medical degree after being dissatisfied with her son's care.

Erica Peterson is a mother of two, entrepreneur, and keynote speaker who founded Moms Can & Co.,, and Moms Can Code, an online community for moms who code. Olivia Benson is the community engagement director for the Women and Girls Foundation. She oversees the organization’s communications, membership program, volunteer projects, and external community engagement activities. Her experience includes leading communications for political campaigns, working as the director of youth policy for the city of Pittsburgh. She holds a bachelor’s degree in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University, an MBA from Point Park University, and a master’s in social policy from the University of Pennsylvania.

Olivia spoke with Kim and Natalie about the WGF’s GirlGov program, the importance of getting young girls involved in the political process and the challenges ahead for protecting Roe v. Wade.

Julia has a BA in Management Information Systems from University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh-Katz Graduate School of Business.  She is actively engaged in the community, serving on volunteer boards with Pitt’s MBA business simulation program, 412 Food Rescue, Red Chair Pittsburgh and Robert Morris University’s Center for Cyber Research and Training.  She is an adjunct teaching professor for Carnegie Mellon University’s IS project course and guest lectures for Pitt’s Risk Management program in the business school.

Deemer has a bachelor’s in environmental policy from Chatham University and a master’s degree in public management from CMU. She’s worked for Rudiak’s office since 2011, where she currently serves as chief of staff. Deemer ran for the Democratic nomination for the District 4 City Council seat herself but lost in the primary earlier this year.

We talked to Deemer about the new PAC which aims to “disrupt the crippling political inertia in western Pennsylvania” by helping raise money for female candidates (something she knows about firsthand) and why Democrats in Allegheny County should be thinking more about diversity.
